Last week cyber news

  1. The Simone Veil Hospital in France suffers from a widespread ransomware attack causing them to postpone all non-urgent surgeries and all appointments for consultations. The hospital stated that all computer systems were disabled and that they were working with pen and paper. Life-saving surgeries are taking place as usual.
  2. The communications company Frontier Communications reports that it was forced to disable part of the computing services after identifying a malicious element within the corporate network, the company claims that it is currently working on restoring the systems. Following the attack, some of the company’s services were disabled.
  3. A critical weakness in a plugin for WordPress sites affects about half a million sites. The weakness (9.8) is in the Forminator plugin used to create surveys, forms and more. If you use a plug-in, you must update to the corrected version.
  4. Russian hackers attacked water infrastructures in the USA, Poland and France. The “Cyber Army of the Resurrection of Russia” group, which is linked to the Russian Intelligence Administration, accepted responsibility for three attacks on water facilities in the USA, France and Poland. In Texas, the attack spilled hundreds of thousands of gallons of water.
  5. The Airports Authority of Canada reports that due to the the DDoS attack that took place last week, there were extensive disruptions at the check-in stations and at the electronic gates at the airports and border control.
  6. The chip manufacturing company Nexperia reports the shutdown of the entire computing system following a ransomware attack. The Dunghill Group took responsibility for the attack while publishing some of the files it stole from the company and claims to have 1TB of information, which it will publish if the ransom is not paid.

Recently, attempts at impersonation of the national cyber system through publications or official inquiries purporting to originate from the network, mainly through email messages, were reported to the National Cyber Network.

The domain of the Israel National Cyber Directorate is only: cyber.gov.il . Any contact in the name of the Israel National Cyber Directorate, from a different domain, even if similar, is most likely an impersonation attempt.
